Supermoon and Grand Luna both utilize planar technology and are hand-built in Portland, Oregon. Supermoon delivers a fast, energetic, V-shaped presentation from a single 14mm full-range planar driver. Grand Luna pairs a 14mm planar driver with two high-frequency balanced armatures and acoustic treatment to produce a warm, lush, and laid-back character. Both are fully realized planar IEMs. The choice is tonal character: V-shaped energy against warm, relaxed musicality.
Our Planar Approach
Planar magnetic drivers operate differently from balanced armature and dynamic driver designs. A thin, wide diaphragm is driven across its full surface simultaneously, producing fast transient response, precise imaging, and energetic high-frequency extension that is characteristic of the format. The result is a sound that can feel immediate and vivid in ways that other driver types approach differently.
Our planar program spans three universal models: Supermoon, Grand Luna, and Astrolith. Each represents a distinct approach to what a planar IEM can be. Supermoon expresses the format's inherent energy in its most direct form. Grand Luna applies acoustic treatment and adds high-frequency balanced armature drivers to shape that energy into something warmer and more relaxed. Astrolith takes the format further still with a dual planar configuration.
Both Supermoon and Grand Luna are hand-built in Portland, Oregon, and verified with Audio Precision measurement equipment before leaving our workshop. The driver format they share is the starting point. What they do with it is where they separate.

Supermoon's single 14mm full-range planar driver handles the entire frequency spectrum in one unit. The 14mm diaphragm is large by IEM standards, and driving it as a full-range unit preserves the planar format's inherent speed, immediacy, and low-distortion character across the full spectrum without crossover points interrupting the signal path.
Grand Luna's architecture takes a different approach. The 14mm planar driver handles low and mid frequencies. Two dedicated high-frequency balanced armatures take the upper range. Acoustic treatment applied to the housing shapes the combined output, rounding the high-frequency energy characteristic of full-range planar drivers and directing the overall result toward a warmer, more relaxed presentation.
Supermoon also has a custom fit equivalent: Supermoon CIEM, available for listeners who want the same V-shaped, energetic planar character in a molded shell. Grand Luna does not currently have a CIEM equivalent.
Sound Character
Supermoon
Supermoon is fast, vivid, and unapologetically energetic. The V-shaped tuning places bass and treble both elevated relative to the midrange, which sits slightly back in the mix. The planar driver's inherent speed gives Supermoon a sense of immediacy and speed : transients arrive sharp and defined, bass hits with impact and speed rather than bloom, and the high frequencies extend with the lively, airy character that planar drivers are known for.
This is an IEM that leans into music with energy. Electronic, hip-hop, and rock material gains a vivid, physical quality. Percussion is fast and defined. Bass lines have presence without overhang. High hats and cymbals extend brightly into the upper range. For listeners who want to feel music rather than simply hear it, Supermoon's character rewards that instinct directly.
The V-shaped tuning does mean the midrange sits back. Vocals and acoustic instruments are present, but they are not pulled forward the way they would be in a warm or midrange-focused IEM. Listeners who prioritize midrange presence should be aware of that distinction.
Grand Luna
Supermoon and Grand Luna both utilize planar technology but present their sound with distinct tonal characters, demonstrating the importance of acoustic treatment and design philosophy. Where Supermoon leans forward into the listening experience, Grand Luna settles back and invites you in.
The acoustic treatment applied to Grand Luna's housing is what creates the distance between these two models. The high-frequency energy characteristic of planar drivers is rounded and shaped into something warmer and more relaxed. Where Supermoon's highs are lively and extended, Grand Luna's are smooth, rich, and present without demanding attention. This is the central differentiator between these two models: treble energy, not bass quantity.
Grand Luna's bass is elevated and prominent, contributing to its lush and enveloping character. The low-frequency planar driver delivers bass with weight and texture. The overall presentation is warm, unhurried, and well-suited to long listening sessions where fatigue is not an option. Jazz, acoustic, vocal, and classical music land with the richness and ease that this character serves best.
Who Each Model Is For
Supermoon suits listeners who want the direct, energetic character of the planar format without acoustic modification. It is the right choice for fans of electronic, hip-hop, and rock music where a V-shaped presentation and fast transient response serve the material, and for buyers who want the option of a custom fit through Supermoon CIEM. Those who prioritize high-frequency presence and planar speed over warmth and ease will find exactly what they are looking for.
Grand Luna suits listeners who have experienced Supermoon's technical performance and wanted something warmer and more relaxed in the high frequencies. It is the right choice for jazz, acoustic, vocal, and classical listening, for buyers who want a planar IEM built for long and unhurried sessions, and for those drawn to the hybrid planar plus balanced armature architecture as a distinct engineering approach.
A listener who loves V-shaped energy is not a less sophisticated buyer than one who prefers warmth. Both preferences are equally valid. Route honestly, and choose the model built for how you actually listen.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the main difference between Supermoon and Grand Luna? Supermoon is V-shaped, fast, and energetic, expressing the direct character of planar technology. Grand Luna uses a planar driver with acoustic treatment and balanced armature support for a warm, lush, and laid-back presentation. The key difference is treble energy, not bass quantity.
What does V-shaped mean for Supermoon? Bass and treble are both elevated relative to the midrange, which sits slightly back in the mix. The result is energetic, impactful, and vivid rather than neutral or warm. Supermoon's planar driver adds speed and precision to this character, making it immediate and engaging.
Is Grand Luna worth the extra $500 over Supermoon? It depends entirely on your listening priorities. Grand Luna's acoustic treatment produces a warmer, more relaxed presentation that Supermoon does not offer. If you want V-shaped energy and planar speed, the extra $500 does not buy what you are looking for. Choose by character, not price.
Does Grand Luna come in a custom fit version? No. Supermoon is available as Supermoon CIEM for listeners who want the same V-shaped character in a custom molded shell. Grand Luna does not currently have a CIEM equivalent.
What is acoustic treatment and how does it affect Grand Luna's sound? Acoustic treatment refers to materials and design elements applied within the housing that shape the driver's output. In Grand Luna, this treatment rounds the high-frequency energy characteristic of planar drivers, producing a more relaxed, warmer presentation compared to Supermoon.
Is there a more advanced planar option above Grand Luna? Yes. Astrolith uses a dual planar driver configuration and sits above Grand Luna in our planar range. All three planar models, Supermoon, Grand Luna, and Astrolith, are hand-built in Portland, Oregon.
